I have just posted Metres of Beothius VIII (the “former age” poem) after letting it sit for months in the can. We are venturing into unknown territory here with these poems, since there are very few, if any translations of these poems. They are also much less pleasant to work on than the Exeter Book lyrics, for example–just something about their style & subject. But that makes the job of reinterpreting and translating them even more important. I must seek the source of their poetical interest, something other than their function as a translation themselves. So far, I’m still looking, trying to leave myself open to feel them for myself.

Any thoughts or suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated, at l;east to get a conversation started about these mysterious and unexplored poems.
